International Functional Fitness Federation

Technical Officials

Technical Officials (TOs) are the judges of functional fitness. IF3 offers training and certification for international TOs along a pathway from Class I to Class III. To officiate at any IF3-sanctioned event you must be at least an International Technical Official Class I.

Three Classes

The IF3 TO Pathway

IF3 certifies Technical Officials who meet the requirements of each phase. You must complete the requirements for a class before beginning the next higher class.

Entry

Class I

The entry level of the pathway. After meeting the initial requirements, officials pass a written test and an in-person evaluation at a World or Continental Championship — both within 18 months of each other.
Teams & Youth

Class II

Trained to judge team competition and youth athletes. Requires the Class II course, a written test, and an in-person evaluation at a World or Continental Championship.
Head TO

Class III

Trained to serve as Head TOs, handle appeals, and evaluate other officials. Requires the Class III course, a written test, and an in-person evaluation at a World or Continental Championship.
Getting to Class I

Two Tracks

There are two tracks to meet the initial requirements for Class I testing — you select the one available in your country.

If your country has an NF with TO education

If you have completed the highest level of your National Federation's TO education programme, you can proceed directly to IF3 Class I testing. Your NF's TO Program leader confirms your completion when you register.

If your country has no NF (or no TO education)

Apply to begin Class I testing with an account of your prior judging experience. The Technical Officials Committee reviews your application and either invites you to test or gives feedback. You get study materials and can sit the written exam while your application is reviewed — it's graded once you're approved.
National route

Approved Federations

These national federations' TO education is approved by IF3. If you completed the qualifying level shown, you can take the national route. If your federation is not listed, apply to IF3 instead.

Step by step

How Class I works in the officials area, from sign-up to certificate.

  1. Create your account

Sign up and choose Start as a Technical Official. This opens My TO, your own officials area. You don't need access to a federation's portal.
  2. Choose your route to Class I testing

On My TO, pick one of the two tracks. Through your national federation:choose your federation (see the approved list below), the national level you completed and when. Your federation's TO programme leader gets an email and confirms it. By application: describe your judging experience. The Technical Officials Committee reviews it and either invites you to test or sends feedback so you can apply again.
  3. Study

The study material opens on My TO straight away, whichever route you chose.
  4. Take the written test

The IF3 written test is online and marked as soon as you submit. You can take it while your route is still waiting; the result is then held and released once your route is confirmed. A pass makes you NSO Pre-Certified (national route) or Pre-Certified (IF3)(application). If you don't pass, you can take it again.
  5. Request your Class I evaluation

On My TO, request an in-person evaluation at the World or Continental Championship where you will officiate. IF3 approves the request and your evaluator records the result. The written test and the evaluation must both be passed within 18 months.
  6. Receive your certificate

A passed evaluation awards TO Class 1. Your certificate is on My TO, with a number and a QR code anyone can scan to check it, and you appear on the officials register.
Certified officials

Officials Register

Every official who holds a current IF3 Class I, II or III certificate is listed on the public register, with their federation and level. A single certificate can also be checked by scanning its QR code.
